Cartilage tissue is a substance found between two bones, within a joint to help support joint flexibility. However, with repetitive use of the joint and aging in general, this cartilage tissue wears down and the joint structures suffer. People often complain of pain, stiffness, reduced mobility and limitations on their quality of life.

While conventional therapies (such as pain medications, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs or physical therapy) remain front line, there is growing interest in complementary approaches. Among these, three natural supplements stand out for joint-related aches and pains: Boswellia serrata, Bromelain and enzymes-based therapies.

Boswellia serrata

Boswellia serrata, is a tree that produces a resin, also known as frankincense, that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for inflammatory conditions. Although there are many inflammatory conditions, those associated with joint inflammation is where Boswellia has been primarily useful. Research has examined its various compounds that naturally occur within the resin, particularly “boswellic acids” and one type of boswellic acid, 3 acetyl 11 keto β boswellic acid (AKBBA), has demonstrated potential benefits in osteoarthritis and joint pain. Boswellic acids help with joint pain and osteoarthritis by reducing the activity of chemical messengers in the body that promote inflammation. This reduction results in less pain, swelling and inflammation within a joint, allowing an individual to keep moving with ease and less pain.

Many natural products marketed for joint pain contain Boswellia but do not necessarily state the quantity of AKBBA compound, when searching for a Boswellia product, you want to make sure the label lists the amount of AKBBA, differentiating it from all the other types of boswellic acids that may be present in this ingredient.

Bromelain

Bromelain is a type of proteolytic enzyme derived from pineapple stem. It helps digest proteins but also can be helpful to address pain and inflammation. This unique enzyme works to reduce the activity of chemical messengers in the body that encourage inflammation. So, by reducing their activity, inflammation and pain are reduced.

It is important to note that simply consuming pineapple fruit may not provide the same effect as a capsule of pineapple-derived bromelain. The concentration and quantity are often difficult to obtain from consuming the fruit alone.

Other enzymes such as amylase, protease and others may also help support joint related complaints. Enzymes such as these may help contribute to muscle recovery, allowing individuals to recovery faster after bouts of physical activity.

Conclusion

For individuals experiencing joint pain or osteoarthritis, integrating Boswellia serrata extracts and enzyme based therapies, including bromelain and more offers a promising complementary strategy. These natural ingredients can help with reducing pain, improving function, modulating inflammation and possibly influencing cartilage health.

Always discuss any new supplement with a qualified healthcare provider, especially if you are on medications or have underlying health conditions.

In this context, natural blood pressure supplements have gained attention as potential adjuncts to support cardiovascular health.

Although high blood pressure is associated with significant long-term risks, evidence suggests that it can often be effectively managed through a combination of lifestyle modifications and the use of natural supplements. This article will examine the role of specific natural blood pressure supplements, identify ingredients that show promise, and discuss how these supplements may contribute to improved cardiovascular outcomes when integrated into a comprehensive health plan.

Support Healthy Blood Pressure

Understanding High Blood Pressure: What It Is and Why It Matters?

Hypertension occurs when blood exerts excessive pressure against arterial walls, thereby increasing the risk of serious complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, kidney impairment, and progressive vision problems.

Several factors are commonly associated with the development and progression of high blood pressure, including:

- Diets high in sodium, often from processed or fried foods

- Chronic stress and insufficient sleep

- Physical inactivity or a sedentary lifestyle

- Tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption

- Genetic predisposition, particularly with a family history of cardiovascular disease

When combined with evidence-based lifestyle modifications such as balanced nutrition and regular physical activity, natural products that target blood pressure may support cardiovascular outcomes. While these supplements function as supportive adjuncts rather than stand-alone treatments, they can provide meaningful benefits when integrated into a comprehensive approach to hypertension management.

How Supplements for High Blood Pressure Help?

These forms of nutritional supplementation are typically derived from herbs, vitamins, and minerals that interact with the body’s natural physiological processes. Individuals can support their cardiovascular health by incorporating natural blood pressure supplements into their daily routines.

Such supplements generally provide three primary benefits:

- Facilitating vascular relaxation, which enables blood to flow more efficiently through the vessels

- Promoting healthy circulation, thereby reducing strain on the heart

- Supporting stress regulation and mitigating inflammation, both of which are associated with improved cardiovascular outcomes

It is not surprising that a growing number of individuals are seeking natural supplements for high blood pressure as complementary support for cardiovascular health.

Blood Pressure Supplements of Natural Ingredients – not sure what this subheading is trying to state, perhaps “Natural Ingredients that help with blood pressure”; otherwise, omit this whole subheading and just use the one below.

Key Ingredients and Their Benefits

Garlic Extract

Garlic is one of the most recognized blood pressure natural supplements. In herbal medicine, it is traditionally used to support cardiovascular health and has been shown to help reduce elevated blood lipid levels. Its ability to promote blood vessel dilation makes it a valuable ingredient for maintaining healthy blood pressure.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

This is in the context of our #26 product, but we have yet to talk about the product, so omit this statement. Raw coffee beans are rich in chlorogenic acids. These compounds may help support healthy blood pressure by improving vascular function and reducing oxidative stress.

Marine Collagen (Naticol® 1000)

This premium source of hydrolyzed collagen, derived from fish skin, contributes to vascular health by supporting the structural integrity and elasticity of blood vessels. While not a direct antihypertensive, collagen plays a complementary role in overall cardiovascular wellness.

Passionflower Extract

Traditionally used in herbal medicine as a natural sleep aid, passionflower helps relieve restlessness and mental stress. By promoting relaxation, it may indirectly support blood pressure regulation, as stress and poor sleep are known risk factors for hypertension.

Why Are Natural Blood Pressure Supplements So Popular?

For many individuals, the central question is how effective these supplements can be. Their popularity stems from several key advantages:

- They are generally well-tolerated by the body

- Suitable for daily use

- Provide broad health benefits, including enhanced energy, reduced stress, and overall cardiovascular support

Please omit these; we cannot have a blanket statement saying that these natural ingredients can be taken alongside conventional treatments – this is something that can pose a risk. Remove the whole paragraph, please.

How To Make the Most Out of Blood Pressure Supplements?

Consistency is critical for supporting overall cardiovascular health. When combined with evidence-based lifestyle practices, it becomes easier to maximize the benefits of blood pressure supplements.

Top Supplements for a Healthy Heart

Key strategies include:

- Establishing daily reminders to maintain supplement routines

- Consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein

- Engaging in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day

- Minimizing intake of processed foods and sodium

- Limiting alcohol consumption and avoiding tobacco use

- Maintaining a regular sleep schedule, aiming for 7–8 hours per night

Integrating these healthy habits alongside supplements can enhance blood pressure management and support broader aspects of cardiovascular and overall wellness over time.

What Are the Actual Benefits You Will Experience?

For those who use top-grade blood pressure supplements, some useful benefits include:

- Consistent healthy blood pressure readings

- An increase in energy with a reduction in fatigue

- Improved sleep

- Decrease in stress levels

It is important to note that these results are achieved through a full wellness plan that incorporates correctly dosed supplements. What does this mean?

Conclusion

Maintaining blood pressure does not need to be complicated. By making informed choices and incorporating natural blood pressure supplements, it is possible to support cardiovascular health safely and effectively on a daily basis. Key ingredients—such as garlic, green coffee bean extract, collagen, hawthorn, CoQ10, olive leaf extract, and magnesium these are not in our formula, but you can leave them in if you want—work synergistically to support heart and overall cardiovascular function. They can significantly impact an individual’s life due to discomfort and disruption to daily life. Similarly, a yeast infection is a type of fungal infection that can affect many individuals but is often prevalent in females, particularly impacting the vaginal-urinary region.

Both urinary tract infection and vaginal yeast infections can occur one after the other, whereby a yeast infection typically occurs following antibiotic treatment of a urinary tract infection. When this occurs over and over again it can have a tremendous negative effect on an individual’s day to day lifestyle.

What is a Urinary Tract Infection?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) occurs when bacteria, most commonly Escherichia coli (E. coli), enter the urinary tract and infect the tissues that make up the urinary tract system, including the bladder, urethra and in severe cases even the kidneys. Bacteria that enter this system can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms, and if not addressed and treated early on can worsen overtime.

Common Symptoms of UTIs:

   • A burning sensation during urination
   • Frequent and urgent need to urinate
   • Cloudy or strong-smelling urine
   • Lower abdominal pain or discomfort
   • Occasionally, fever or chills if the infection reaches the kidneys

UTIs are caused by bacteria and there are a number of antibiotics that are used to help eliminate and treat the infection. The antibiotics work to directly target the infection-causing bacteria; however, this can also lead to the elimination of healthy vaginal flora. Vaginal flora consists of healthy bacteria that reside within the vaginal area to help contribute to a healthy pH and environment within the area. Unfortunately, when antibiotics are used to treat a UTI, both the infectious and healthy bacteria populations are affected. This shift in vaginal flora can lead to an increase in vaginal yeast infections simply because it is only the yeast that remain after antibiotic treatment and they multiple dramatically which can lead to a vaginal yeast infection.

What is a Yeast Infection?

A yeast infection, or vaginal candidiasis, is caused by an overgrowth of Candida albicans, a fungus that naturally lives in the vaginal flora. Imbalances in this ecosystem due to antibiotic use, hormonal changes, or lifestyle factors can contribute to an overgrowth, resulting in infection.

Common Symptoms of Yeast Infections:

   • Intense vaginal itching or irritation
   • Thick, white discharge (often described as resembling cottage cheese)
   • Redness and swelling of the vulva
   • Pain during intercourse or urination

Both UTIs and vaginal infections can occur together and potentially recur, prevention is key and that's where natural herbal remedies can play a major role. In recent years, many individuals have turned to natural remedies as an adjunct option to conventional medicine, especially for managing symptoms and preventing recurrence.

Natural Remedies for Prevention and Symptom Management

While antibiotics and antifungals are the mainstay of treatment, natural products offer supportive benefits that can help reduce the risk of recurrence and relieve mild symptoms. Some of the most common natural options are listed below:

Cranberry Extract for UTIs

Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins, which are compounds that prevent E. coli bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall. Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice or taking cranberry supplements can help prevent the onset of an infections, especially in women prone to recurring infections.

Probiotics for Both UTIs and Yeast Infections

Probiotics, particularly Lactobacillus strains, help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria and yeast in the body. These "good bacteria" can prevent harmful microbes from multiplying.

   • Oral probiotics help support gut and urogenital health.
   • Vaginal probiotic suppositories can directly replenish beneficial bacteria in the vaginal environment.

Many health care providers recommend taking probiotics after a course of antibiotics, to help prevent the disruption of microbial balance that can trigger UTIs and yeast infections.

D-Mannose for UTIs

D-mannose is a natural sugar that binds to E. coli bacteria and helps flush it out of the urinary tract during urination. Clinical studies suggest that D-mannose supplements can be helpful in preventing recurrent UTIs, with fewer side effects than antibiotics.

Uva ursi

Commonly known as bearberry, uva ursi is a herb traditionally used for urinary tract infections (UTIs). The active compound in uva ursi is arbutin, which is converted in the body into hydroquinone. This compound can reduce growth of some harmful bacteria in the urinary tract, including E. coli.

In addition to natural herbal ingredients, other changes can also be helpful.

Hydration and Urination Habits

For UTIs, frequent urination helps flush bacteria from the urinary tract. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is essential. Some additional tips:

   • Always urinate after sexual intercourse to help expel bacteria.
   • Avoid holding in urine for long periods.
   • Wear breathable, cotton underwear to reduce moisture and bacterial growth.

Dietary Adjustments

A high-sugar diet can feed both Candida and bad bacteria, increasing your risk for infections.

   • Reduce refined sugars and processed foods.
   • Increase intake of leafy greens, lean proteins, and prebiotic fibers.

FAQ:

1. When should I see my doctor about UTI and/or yeast infections

Natural options can be effective in prevention and mild symptom relief, but persistent or severe infections require professional medical attention. Warning signs include:

   • Fever or chills
   • Back pain
   • Blood in the urine
   • Symptoms lasting more than a few days despite treatment
   • Recurring infections

2. Can I combine antibiotics with natural therapies?

If you want to combine both natural and conventional treatment options, it is best to check with your doctor first. Your doctor can help you determine which products and treatments are safe to combine.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/glowing-skin-starts-from-within 2025-08-25T11:04:06-04:00 2025-09-30T10:55:34-04:00 Glowing skin starts from within Bo Alesandru Chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis affect millions of people worldwide, causing not only physical discomfort but also emotional distress. Many individuals can become apprehensive about the appearance of their skin, resulting in daily habits such as constant covering up their skin, spending money trying a variety of skin cleansers, and more without significant improvements. While topical treatments and prescription medications are often necessary, there is growing interest in the role of nutritional supplements to support skin health from the inside out. Among the most researched and promising supplements are fish oil, berberine, and burdock root. These natural ingredients have shown potential in improving the appearance of skin affected by eczema and psoriasis by addressing inflammation, balancing immune health, and supporting healthy detoxification processes.

Understanding Eczema and Psoriasis

Before diving into what natural ingredients can help with these conditions, it is important to understand what eczema and psoriasis are.

•    Eczema, particularly atopic dermatitis, is a long-standing condition where the skin becomes dry, inflamed, thicker, itchy, and cracked. It is linked to an overactive immune system response, skin barrier dysfunction, and environmental allergens. The most common type is associated with allergens, such as nickel from belt buckles and jewelry.
•    Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease characterized by rapid skin cell turnover, resulting in thick, scaly silver and red patches. It also has a strong inflammatory component that is impacted by immune system challenges.

Both conditions are uniquely complex, making them difficult to treat but can often be managed with medications, diet and lifestyle changes as well as natural supplements. While topical products can be beneficial for many common skin concerns, they are not always effective in treating these complex skin issues, primarily because they do not address the underlying factors that contribute to the skin changes. Conditions such as severe cystic acne, eczema and psoriasis often require more than just surface-level treatment. Although topical cleansers, serums and moisturizers can temporarily improve the appearance of the skin, they rarely address the root cause, which may lie deeper within the body. In such cases, natural health supplements and lifestyle changes can be beneficial. Relying solely on topical products can lead to frustration, delayed healing, or worsening of the condition if the underlying cause goes unaddressed.

Natural supplements to help address skin concerns:

Fish Oil: Omega-3s for inflammation and skin barrier support

Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These essential fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, making them particularly helpful for inflammatory skin conditions. Fish oil works in multiple ways including:

•    Reduces systemic inflammation: Omega-3s reduce the production of chemicals released by the body that promote and contribute to eczema and psoriasis flare-ups.
•    Improves and protects the skin barrier: EPA and DHA compounds help maintain the skin's barrier, supporting hydration and preventing redness and dryness. This can help reduce damage from outside elements and keep the skin looking smooth and clear.
•    May reduce itch and scaling: Supplementing with fish oil may lead to decreased itching, redness, and scaling in individuals with psoriasis, and improved hydration and barrier repair in those with eczema.

Berberine: Anti-inflammatory immune system balancing

Berberine is a plant alkaloid compound found in herbs like Berberis vulgaris (barberry) and Oregon graperoot. It has gained attention for its powerful anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and metabolic benefits, but it also helps keep skin looking it’s best. Berberine helps regulate overactive immune system activity which can occur in inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis. As this overactive immune response decreases with the help of berberine, psoriasis lesions can improve overtime.

Burdock Root: Detoxification and antioxidant power

Burdock root (Arctium lappa) is a traditional herbal plant medicine known for its purifying and anti-inflammatory effects. It’s rich in antioxidants, polyphenols and inulin, a type of prebiotic fiber.

•    Supports liver detoxification: Traditional medicine often links skin issues with liver function. Burdock root supports the liver’s natural detox processes, helping to clear the body of unwanted waste, which indirectly improves the appearance of skin.
•    Anti-inflammatory action: The plant contains compounds that reduce inflammation, which may help soothe irritated skin and reduce flare-ups in both eczema and psoriasis.
•    Antibacterial and antifungal effects: Burdock’s natural antimicrobial properties may help prevent secondary infections common in chronic skin conditions.

While fish oil, berberine, and burdock root each work through different mechanisms, they share a common goal: reducing inflammation and supporting internal balance, which can reflect positively on the skin. For individuals suffering from eczema or psoriasis, these supplements can complement conventional topical treatments and help improve overall skin appearance and comfort.

With the right combination of internal support, topical care, and lifestyle modifications, clearer and healthier skin is within reach.

Always consult your healthcare provider prior to taking medications and/or dietary supplements to ensure the products are right for you.

FAQs:
1.    How long does it typically take to notice improvements in skin health when taking natural supplements?

Various skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema are chronic conditions that occur on and off for months or years, so improving these skin changes may take at least a few months but most individuals will notice some effects within the first few weeks.

2.    Do I need to stop my regular skin care routine?

Many individuals continue with their usual skin cleansers, serums and moisturizers while taking natural supplements to help manage their skin health. It is always a good idea to consult with your dermatologist to determine the best skin care routine and supplements for your individual skin care needs.

3.    Will my skin get worse before it gets better with fish oil and herbal supplements?

For many individuals it is common to notice a slight increase in your skin concerns before the shift towards improvement occurs. This can happen because as you consume fish oil and herbs that work to stimulate the immune system and detoxification pathways in the body, the body may temporarily get overwhelmed before balancing out. This reaction usually occurs within the first 4-6 weeks and then subsides.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/managing-gout-naturally-effective-lifestyle-and-herbal-solutions 2025-07-17T06:39:03-04:00 2025-08-22T13:10:53-04:00 Managing Gout Naturally: Effective Lifestyle and Herbal Solutions Bell Ecomm Gout is a type of joint-related condition that causes sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness in the joints. In most cases, gout attacks occur in the big toe but can impact any joint in the body. These attacks can happen suddenly, without warning, and are extremely painful, lasting for one to two weeks on average.

Natural Ways to Manage Gout

Gout does not affect everyone. It primarily occurs in individuals who have a buildup of a substance called uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a substance that the body produces it as it breaks down purines, which are natural compounds found in DNA cellular components. Everyday, a portion of our cells breakdown, allowing the formation of uric acid to occur. Additionally, certain foods and drinks, such as red meat, organ meats, seafood, and alcohol (especially beer) also all contain high levels of purines. When these foods are consumed in high amounts, the production of uric acid increases, resulting in high levels floating within the bloodstream. Normally, this uric acid eliminated through urine via the kidneys. However, when the body has higher than normal levels of uric acid or the kidneys are not able to efficiently eliminate it from the body, then the extra uric acid can travel within the blood stream and deposit into a joint, such as the big toe, whereby it can form sharp, needle-like crystals. This crystallization triggers the immune system to set off alarm bells, encouraging inflammation, pain, redness and swelling within the affected joint. Many individuals complain of such intense pain that they are unable to walk or move that joint, resulting in time off work and a complete halt to their day-to-day activities.

Individuals who are at higher risk of gout include the following:

- Men (especially over age 40)

- Postmenopausal women

- People with obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease

- Those who eat a lot of purine-rich foods or drink excessive alcohol

- Individuals with a family member with gout, due to genetics

Making changes to your lifestyle can help reduce the recurrence of gout flare ups. Below are some recommendations to help reduce the risk of gout.

- Drinking plenty of water to help encourage uric acid elimination from the body

- Reducing the intake of high-purine foods to help prevent a build up of uric acid within the bloodstream

- Reducing alcohol intake to help prevent the build up of uric acid within the bloodstream

- Maintaining a healthy weight to support optimal healthy heart, kidney and urinary function

Treatment to manage gout pain

When gout flare ups occur doctors often recommend anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs or colchicine, which help reduce pain and inflammation. Other medications such as allopurinol may also be prescribed to help lower uric acid levels in the body which can help prevent frequent gout flare ups. Many of these medications are associated with unwanted side effects, resulting in the search for other options.

Natural supplements for gout

Herbal and natural compounds have been used for a variety of health complaints, so it’s not surprising that many people turn to natural remedies for their gout pain. Below is an overview of some natural supplements for gout symptoms.

Black and tart cherry:

Cherries are a rich source of compounds called anthocyanins, which give cherries their deep red colour. Anthocyanin compounds provide anti-inflammatory effects and can help lower uric acid levels in the body. One study showed when cherry intake was combined with the gout medication allopurinol, the risk of gout attacks was 75% lower than without either cherry or the medication use (Zhang et al, 2013). These effects can help naturally reduce gout pain and possibly prevent future gout attacks. Consuming tart cherry juice or cherry extract in capsule forms are the two common methods used for gout management.

Celery seed extract:

The seeds of celery are rich in a variety of compounds that offer multiple benefits to health. Animal studies have suggested that naturally occurring flavonoid compounds provide antioxidant effects, working to reduce cellular damage and keep cells healthy. Other compounds such as quercetin may help reduce uric acid levels in the body and improve inflammation, thereby helping to quell gout symptom and flare ups (Li et al, 2019).

Banaba leaf:

Banaba leaves are native to the Philippines, although more research is still needed, the leaves are thought to help reduce the production of uric acid in the body (Unno et al, 2004). Moreover, they also support healthy blood sugar levels by working to lower blood glucose levels, offering additional benefits to support overall health.

Yucca root:

A medicinal plant native to Mexico, yucca root has a variety naturally occurring plant compounds that benefit health. Specifically, compounds such as saponins and stilbenes provide anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effects (Cheeke et al, 2006) to help reduce joint pain, including that of gout-related joint pain.

Joint pain and inflammation caused by gout can significantly impact an individual’s daily lifestyle. While medical treatments are available, many people are looking for natural supplements to help manage gout. Natural ingredients such as cherry, celery seed, banaba leaf and yucca extract are some great options that should be considered by those suffering from gout pain.

FAQs:

1. What is gout?

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. It leads to sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness, often affecting the big toe.

2. Why does gout affect the big toe?

Gout often affects the big toe because of a combination of biological and physical factors:

- Lower temperature: The joints in the feet, especially the big toe, are cooler than the rest of the body. Uric acid prefers lower temperatures, which makes it more likely to crystallize in the big toe joint.

- Gravity and blood flow: The big toe is far from the heart and has slower circulation. This can allow uric acid to accumulate more easily in the joint.

3. Why does gout cause so much pain?

Gout causes intense pain due to the body's inflammatory response to uric acid crystals in the joint. These sharp crystals made of uric acid are needle-like crystals that deposit in the joint. These crystals physically irritate and damage the joint lining.

4. How long does a gout attack typically last?

A gout attack typically lasts between 3 to 10 days if left untreated. With anti-inflammatory treatment, a gout attack can last for just a few days in most cases.

Oftentimes it begins around 50 years of age, and the incidence of this condition sharply increases with age. It is a very common condition, whereby 50% of men have BPH by 60 years of age and 90% of men are affected by BPH by the age of 80 years.

The prostate is a small gland located just below the bladder that plays a role in producing semen. As men grow older, normal hormonal changes that occur in the body lead to changes in the size of this gland. This enlarged growth directly causes pressure against the urethra, which is a tube that carries urine out of the body, leading to unwanted changes in urination.

Common Symptoms of BPH

The prostate enlargement associated with BPH is not life threatening, but it can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. Many of the symptoms can negatively impact day to day life.

Common symptoms include:

•    Frequent need to urinate, especially at night
•    Difficulty starting urination
•    Weak or interrupted urine stream
•    Feeling that the bladder isn’t completely empty
•    Urgent need to urinate
•    Discomfort or pain during urination

While medications and surgery are available, many men turn to natural remedies to manage their symptoms. Here are some of the most researched natural ingredients that have shown promise in supporting prostate health.

1. Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens)

What it is: A type of palm-based plant that is native to southeastern United States, saw palmetto berries have been used in traditional medicine for centuries.

How it helps: Saw palmetto is one of the most widely studied natural ingredients for BPH. It is believed to work by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme functions to convert testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that directly encourages the prostate gland to enlarge in size. So, the berries from saw palmetto work to limit this prostate enlargement by impacting hormonal pathways, thereby reducing the symptoms associated with BPH. A 2020 review published in the journal Urology concluded that saw palmetto extract can significantly reduce nighttime urination and improve urinary flow in men with mild to moderate BPH.

2. Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica)

What it is: A plant that has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years. It is native to Europe, North America and North Africa. The leaf portion contains tiny hairs, that if touched with a bare hand can lead to a stinging and burning sensation.

How it helps: Stinging nettle root is believed to work similarly to saw palmetto. It has a direct impact on the hormonal factors that contribute to the enlargement of the prostate gland. Additionally, the leaf portion can help encourage urination, allowing for a healthy flow and stream. A double-blind clinical study published in Planta Medica found that stinging nettle extract improved symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, and flow in men with BPH when used regularly. It’s also often used in combination with saw palmetto for synergistic benefits.

3. Parsley (Petroselinum crispum)

What it is: A common culinary herb that adds a hit of flavour to many dishes. From an herbal medicinal perspective, parsley is rich in flavonoids and antioxidants which can offer a variety of health benefits.

How it helps: Parsley acts as a mild diuretic, which can help encourage and improve urine flow. Individuals who consume this herb, especially in a liquid tea format will note that their urinary flow is stronger and can help reduce frequent bathroom trips.

4. Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon)

What it is: A tart berry that adds a punch of flavour to drinks, baked goods, turkey stuffing and more. This tasty fruit is native to North America. It has been touted to help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and provide a rich source of the antioxidant proanthocyanidins.

How it helps: Though not traditionally used for BPH, cranberries may support overall urinary tract health. This can be especially beneficial for men who experience recurrent urinary tract infections or bladder irritation due to incomplete bladder emptying from BPH. The strong proanthocyanidin compounds can prevent bacteria that cause a bladder infection from physically adhering to the bladder tissue, effectively preventing the onset of an infection.

5. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)

What it is: A gentle herb often consumed as tea, chamomile has calming, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. This herb is native to Europe and western Asia.

How it helps: Chamomile may help relax that muscles that make up the bladder and gently reduce inflammation, potentially improving symptoms like urinary urgency and frequent nighttime urination. Additionally, its calming effect can also help support a restful night’s sleep, which is often disrupted in men with BPH.

Summary

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common part of aging, but its symptoms don’t have to rule your life. Natural ingredients like saw palmetto, stinging nettle, parsley, cranberry and chamomile offer gentle, well-tolerated ways to support your prostate and urinary health. Backed by a growing body of research, these herbs can be a valuable part of a comprehensive plan to help you feel better and live more comfortably.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/the-immune-system 2024-10-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-09-30T10:58:33-04:00 The immune system – protection against unwanted pathogens Bo Alesandru A resilient immune system is essential for maintaining good health and preventing many different types of illnesses. The immune system helps protect the human body against unwanted pathogens such as bacteria and viruses that can cause an infection. These pathogens can make us feel unwell and impact our daily activities, forcing us to stay in bed with a box of tissues.

In many cases maintaining hydration and getting rest is enough to allow the immune system to tackle and defend itself against an infection. However, factors such as a poor diet, nutrient deficiency, high stress and poor sleep can reduce immune systems defenses. Supplementation and a little help from vitamins, minerals and herbal ingredients can significantly boost immunity and improve protection against infectious agents.

Natural ingredients that help support the immune system:

Vitamin C: one of the most well-known vitamins for a healthy immune system is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is not only important to the integrity of the skin barrier but it also plays a role in the production and activity of white blood cells. A robust immune system requires constant white blood cell activity to continually survey and eliminate unwanted pathogens. This helps prevent the onset of an infection and keeps are body protected on a daily basis. Additionally, research also suggests that vitamin C may help shorten the duration of cold symptoms. Therefore, consuming foods rich in Vitamin C such as oranges, or taking a Vitamin C product when cold and flu season rolls around can help protect your immune system against infectious pathogens.

Zinc: Zinc is an essential trace mineral that plays a critical role in immune health. This mineral helps stimulate the production of white blood cells, encourages wound healing and helps shorten the duration of cold symptoms. Individuals who frequently get sick or take a long time to recover are often deficient in this mineral. Zinc can be sourced from a variety of foods, including oysters, beef, chicken, and legumes. Supplementing with zinc can make a positive impact on the immune system. Immune supplements containing zinc amongst other ingredients can help support a healthy immune system.

Echinacea: Echinacea, also commonly known as purple cone flower, is one of the most well-known herbs that has been shown to support the immune system. The root portion of this plant is used medicinally. This herbs root is believed to stimulate the immune system and increase the production of white blood cells to help protect the body against infectious agents. Echinacea products are usually available in dried herb form such as a tea, an herbal extract as well as in a liquid tincture format.

The ingredients listed above are the most common natural agents that have been studied to support immunity. However, there are many more ingredients that can be included in this list. Herbal ingredients rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayruvedic Medicine and Herbal medicine all offer a multitude of options to help benefit the immune system.

When shopping for immune products refer to product labels and look for items with multiple ingredients. Products containing a combination of herbal derived ingredients such as echinacea, vitamins C and D, and essential minerals such as zinc offer comprehensive and synergistic effects to help protect and maintain a healthy immune system.]]>
https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/men-s-mental-health 2024-08-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-09-30T10:58:08-04:00 Men’s Mental Health Bo Alesandru It’s time to talk about men’s mental health. Mental health is not commonly discussed among men, including within doctors’ offices. The notion that men can feel sad, depressed, go through grief, or need to seek out mental health support has not been normalized. This needs to change.

It may be surprising to know that more men die from suicide then prostate cancer. Regular screening, more awareness, research and advancements in treatments have all helped prostate cancer come a long way. However, the incidence of suicide in men consistently remains high. Suicide is almost four times more likely in men than women.

Research studies investigating depression among men and women have reported that women tend to have better coping strategies when dealing with stress. Women are more likely to seek social and professional support for depression, grief, and mental health issues. In contrast, men are told and unfortunately taught from a young age to “suck it up” or “man up” when they express sadness, loss or hardship. This has led to the perception that men who are sad, depressed or seek mental health support are weak. Years of suppressing these emotions and feelings rather than addressing them have contributed to the drastic downfall of men’s mental health issues. Progress is slowly being made, helping encourage men to take their mental health more seriously. Awareness campaigns and breaking down stereotypes is currently in motion.

Men who do not seek support for their mental health may develop destructive coping strategies such as:

• Excessive alcohol consumption
• Drug abuse
• Engaging in risky behavior

These behavioral changes can lead to social isolation, further worsening their mental health and unfortunately, can result in suicide.

Providing resources for men who are stressed, burnt out or feeling sad can help lead the way to better mental health in men. Natural herbs and compounds can help the body mentally and physically cope with stress. Some of these substances include:

  • Adaptogenic herbs: There are a variety of herbs with adaptogenic properties to help support energy and mood balance. Panax ginseng is one of the most popular ones. Panax ginseng is used in Herbal Medicine as an adaptogen to help increase energy and resistance to stress. Others include holy basil, ashwagandha, licorice and reishi mushroom.
  • Calming herbs: Falling asleep and getting enough sleep can have a major influence of mental health. Herbs such as lemon balm, chamomile, passion flower and many others are often enjoyed as a tea at night time to support sleep and mental relaxation.
  • B vitamins such as Vitamin B6, B2 and B12 are important factors for a variety of functions within the body, including mood. B vitamins are not produced by the body so they must be obtained from diet or supplementation. When the body is under stress and a diet rich in B vitamins is lacking, a potential deficiency in these essential vitamins may occur. This can contribute to tiredness, low mood and lack of motivation. Supplementing with B vitamins can have drastic impacts on mood, energy and neurological health.
  • 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is an amino acid used by the brain to produce the brain chemical serotonin. Serotonin is used in the brain for mood balance. Many antidepressant medications work by keeping up levels of serotonin in the brain. Supplementing with 5-HTP can help contribute to healthy serotonin levels in the brain and benefit mood.

In addition to using supplements and products, continuing with awareness and discussing feeling amongst men is crucial. Recognizing that it is healthy and normal for men to feel sad, talk about their feelings and openly discuss depression and suicide are vital to the survival of men’s health. Remember suicide is 100% preventable. Normalizing discussions about feelings and emotions in men and checking in on that buddy who may have become withdrawn or is going through a challenging time can contribute to significant changes and possibly save a man’s life.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/cholesterol-is-it-good-or-bad 2024-07-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-09-30T10:57:22-04:00 Cholesterol – is it good or bad? Bo Alesandru If you ever had blood work done at the request of your doctor it’s likely that your cholesterol levels were on the list of items being tested. Having cholesterol levels checked regularly is often part of routine check-up and screening guidelines because high cholesterol levels are considered a risk factor for developing cardiovascular-related health issues, such as heart disease and stroke.

So, what exactly is cholesterol? Cholesterol is a fat-based molecule that is made by the body and used for a variety of crucial functions. Although it has been given a bad rap, cholesterol does benefit the human body and without it many human processes would not function.

Benefits of cholesterol:

  • Makes up a portion of human cell membranes
  • Is required to manufacture important hormones such as cortisol, testosterone and estrogen
  • Used to make bile, a specific type of fluid that helps digest fats from the diet
  • Insulates nerve cells
  • Is used to help manufacture Vitamin D in the body

Cholesterol is made in the liver. Typically the body makes adequate and healthy amounts to assist in the functions listed above. However, you can also get cholesterol from food, such as meats, cheese, eggs, baked goods and fried foods. Excess consumption of these foods can eventually lead to higher than normal amounts of cholesterol in the blood stream and negatively impact cardiovascular health.

Excessive amounts of cholesterol circulating within blood vessels can combine with other substances and adhere to the inner surface of the blood vessel, this is known as plaque formation. Plaque deposits can result in narrowing of the blood vessel disrupting the flow of blood to important organs such as the brain, lungs or heart. Unfortunately, a diet high in saturated fats and processed foods can contribute to plaque build-up and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Making healthier choices such as avoiding or limiting fried foods, baked goods, heavily processed foods and instead opting for fresh whole foods can reduce excessive cholesterol intake the from diet. Moreover, the liver’s production of cholesterol would be sufficient for all the benefits cholesterol has to offer to the human body without the negative cardiovascular risks.

Tips to improve cholesterol levels:

  • Reduce foods high in saturated fats
  • Avoid trans fats
  • Increase consumption of fibre
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
  • Maintain a healthy body weight
  • Consume healthy fats such as Omega-3’s

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/urinary-tract-infections-to-treat-or-prevent-that-is-the-question 2024-06-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-09-30T10:57:44-04:00 URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS: To treat or prevent? That is the question. Bo Alesandru Urinary tract infections (UTI), also known as “bladder infections” occur when bacteria enter the urinary system and infect the surrounding bladder tissue, causing symptoms of pain, burning, fever and increased urination. If not treated immediately, a UTI can lead to permanent kidney damage.

Urinary tract infections are very common in females, about 70% of women will have one urinary tract infection within their lifetime, while only 12% of men will experience one within their lifetime[1]. Some factors that contribute to this increased risk include: holding in urine, a naturally short urethra (a normal occurrence in the female urinary system), contamination during wiping, use of diaphragm or spermicidal contraceptives, sex, and pH changes within the vaginal and urinary regions.

The most common treatment for urinary tract infections are antibiotics, however overuse of such medications can lead to bacterial resistance which is a much bigger problem. Imagine having so many bladder infections and using multiple antibiotic treatments over time that one day, they no longer work – all of them! This means your treatment options are severely restricted, putting you at risk of UTI complications such as kidney damage.

Over the past 10 years, most heath care providers have shifted their approach from treatment to prevention, aiming to help reduce antibiotic resistance. The antibiotics that are prescribed work well and fast but if used too often, the bacteria figure out a way to adapt to this medication, rendering them useless. In summary, if the number of infections a person has are reduced then they won’t require multiple antibiotic prescriptions which means they are less likely to develop antibiotic resistance.  The best part is, with a preventative approach, you are less likely to have multiple infections overtime.

So, what are some ways to help prevent a urinary tract infection?

1. Drink water, lots of it and often – drinking water encourages you to urinate more frequently throughout the day. Holding in urine allows bacteria to grow and thrive within the bladder. So drink up.

2. Pee often. It is commonly known that individuals who hold in their urine for long periods of time are at a high risk of a UTI. By drinking lots of water, your kidneys are forced to produce more urine, resulting in frequent bathroom trips. Flushing out the bacteria by frequent urination reduces the number of bacterial populations as well as their chance to populate within your bladder walls. So sip often and flush often.

3. Avoid sugary foods and beverages. The most common bacteria that causes a UTI is E. coli and they love sugar because it gives them energy and helps then proliferate. Cutting out the sugar makes it harder for E. coli to thrive, thus reducing the chances of an infection.

4. Cranberry intake – Cranberries are rich in a compound called proanthocyanidins. They work by preventing the bacteria from adhering to the bladder tissue[2]. If the bacteria are unable to stick to the bladder surface, they won’t be able to infect the tissue either. Dried cranberries, sugar free cranberry juice and tea, as well as cranberry supplements are great options for helping to prevent UTIs. Tea or beverage forms are a good option because they also encourage fluid intake and frequent urination.

Other herbal options include D-mannose, bearberry herb and goldenseal. These herbs and natural compounds can help target and prevent urinary tract infections.

So, to all you women (and that small percentage of men), if you find yourself at your pharmacy for yet another antibiotic prescription for that horrible bladder infection, you may want to start thinking about prevention rather than treatment.

The preventative approach benefits you, reducing the number of infections, lowers your risk of antibiotic resistance and lowers your risk of UTI complications such as irreversible kidney damage.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/tips-for-healthy-weight-loss 2024-05-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-04-18T01:34:31-04:00 Tips for Healthy Weight Loss Bo Alesandru Weight loss can often feel like an uphill battle. With a variety of fad diets, weight loss programs, intense work out routines and social media health hacks, achieving a specific weight loss goal can seem frustrating. Weight control is not just about calories in and calories out. Managing a healthy weight is complicated, it involves nutritional guidance, movement/exercise regimens, improving digestive health, hormonal balance, mental health management, prioritizing sleep and metabolic control. The combination of these factors is what can significantly help you regain your health and successfully keep excess weight off.

TIPS FOR HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS:

  1. Consume 1200-1800 calories daily. Weight loss programs that guarantee fast results, such as more than 3 to 5 lbs loss a week often encourage very low caloric intake. Calorie-restricted diets work by starving the body, something that is not sustainable in the long term. The human body simply cannot keep functioning optimally on limited fuel intake. Fast-track weight loss plans often result in long term weight gain, usually involving more weight gain than prior to the initial diet plan. The reason for this is short term caloric restriction can impact hormones, sleep, stress and appetite signals within the brain. Once you stop the diet plan various body systems become dysregulated and contribute to additional weight gain. Instead skip the crash diets and stick to a long-term sustainable program that teaches you about consuming adequate calories for your specific lifestyle and focus on consuming real nutrient-dense foods that sustain healthy weight goals. Foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats can provide the body with essential nutrients and help you naturally keep excess weight off.
  • Move your body daily. The human body was not designed to sit in front of a screen all day. We were designed with joints that are meant to bend and muscles that function to contract and become stronger with movement. Committing to a daily walk, getting up from your desk and periodically stretching, or lifting some weights can help the body feel energized and useful. Prioritize body movement activities everyday with an at-home exercise routine, a visit to your local gym, going up and down your staircase or simply taking your dog on a few daily walks. Expending stored energy within the body has an impact on weight loss so work towards a less sedentary lifestyle and get those muscles moving.
  • Optimize liver function. The liver is the human body’s organ that works to remove toxins and waste from the body. Ensuring your body is not storing unwanted waste can help reduce toxin load and support nutrient absorption which is important when trying to lose weight.
  • Curb cravings. Whether they are sweet or salty, cravings and excessive snacking can quickly lead to excess weight gain. Developing a scheduled meal time routine with satisfying and healthy foods can keep you from snacking excessively and reaching for those mid-afternoon and late night treats. Overtime, regularly scheduled meals can help your brain and body predict when food is expected to enter the body, this can help regulate energy, concentration, blood sugar levels and reduce cravings throughout the day. However, keep in mind this only works if your meals are nutritiously balanced and portioned correctly.
  • Keep thyroid hormone levels within normal range. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism, so a slow functioning thyroid may slow down your metabolism and therefore be the underlying cause for weight gain. Have your doctor check your thyroid hormone levels annually. Weight gain or difficulty losing weight and keeping it off may be an indication that your thyroid hormones are not within normal range. If your thyroid levels are not within normal range then consult your doctor to determine the best ways to improve your levels.

Choosing natural health products that support energy, liver and digestive health, sleep regulation, hormone balance and reduce cravings, alongside lifestyle changes and a balanced healthy diet are more likely to help you achieve your long term weight management goals. So stop researching the newest fad diet and try a whole diet and lifestyle approach instead.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/the-necessary-lifestyle-changes-for-hypertension 2024-04-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-05-20T09:47:59-04:00 The Necessary Lifestyle Changes for Hypertension Bo Alesandru High blood pressure (hypertension) affects one-quarter of Canadian and one-third of American adults; worldwide, it’s estimated at 40%. Globally, it is the leading risk factor for death and disability and it’s been increasing over the past few decades. Along with the increase in blood pressure in our population, pharmaceutical prescriptions have also increased to control the blood pressure. This is a terrible scenario.

In this article, I will outline the beneficial impact of making lifestyle changes on your blood pressure to show that we’re not all destined to high blood pressure, nor the range of medications to control it.

Primary vs. Secondary Hypertension

The basic distinction in high blood pressure is based on what’s causing it. Primary hypertension is idiopathic, meaning, we don’t know what causes it; it makes up over 90% of the total. It’s thought that the causes are environmental or genetic (ie, mostly diet and lifestyle). In secondary hypertension, there is a known cause (5-10% of the cases of total hypertension).

This form of high blood pressure tends to start suddenly and at a higher level. Common causes of secondary hypertension include: kidney disease, obstructive sleep apnea, thyroid and adrenal problems, medications (eg: birth control pills, cold medicines, pain medications), cocaine and amphetamines, adrenal gland tumours and alcohol abuse.

Why is High Blood Pressure Getting More Common?

It’s not just adults, hypertension is also increasingly found in our children. The predominant thought is that as our society gains more weight, makes poor dietary choices, continues to be sleep and exercise-deprived while also suffering from high stress levels with little exposure to nature, it is no wonder that our blood pressure gets affected. These factors tie in to how we choose to live our lives, our lifestyle.

Lifestyle Changes that Reduce Blood Pressure

Dietary lifestyle: it’s true, you are what you eat. What you eat affects your biochemistry, your hormones, the quality of your actual tissues and cells that make up your body.

Simply stated, eating a balanced diet with an emphasis on vegetables, fruits, whole grains/legumes and a moderate fat diet with minimal sweets and low-moderate salt intake will in most cases reduce your blood pressure. This way of eating, referred to as the ‘DASH diet’ (dietary approaches to stop hypertension), is a proven method to reduce elevated blood pressure.

Stress and relaxation lifestyle: when you experience stress, hormones are automatically released that increase your blood pressure (eg: adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, etc.). If it’s a temporary stress, then your blood pressure returns to normal. However, if it is an ongoing stress, then your hormones stay higher for longer and so does your blood pressure.

Stress can also make you use up more minerals and vitamins which has it’s own detrimental effects. Do you take time to relax? Often the balancing factor to address stress is to make sure you build in relax time, particularly outdoors, where you can get your mind off of stressful thoughts. Meditation, guided imagery, relaxation breathing, tai chi are just a few examples of simple methods to into your daily relaxation practice.

Exercise habits and weight regulation: exercise tones your body’s muscles in a way that normalizes your blood pressure.

It also helps you to burn fat and regulate your insulin hormone level – this helps to improve your blood pressure. Several studies have found that combining a DASH diet and weight reduction strategies leads to even better blood pressure improvement.

Reduce your toxin exposures: you commonly hear about reducing alcohol consumption and smoking to benefit your blood pressure. Don’t stop there, reduce your chemical exposures overall. Air pollution for example is associated with increased blood pressure.

Taiwanese researchers published a 2017 study in Environment International comparing the effect of long term air filtration in households over the course of two years. They found that when particulate matter in the air was reduced by air filtration, the participants had lower blood pressure and lower blood markers of inflammation and oxidative damage.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/joint-inflammation-and-osteoarthritis 2024-03-10T19:00:00-04:00 2025-04-18T01:34:53-04:00 Joint Inflammation and Osteoarthritis Bo Alesandru Inflammation is the body’s response to an unwanted stimuli. This response is mediated primarily by the immune system. The main objective of an inflammatory response is to encourage healing. Inflammation can be caused by infections, chemical/ radiation exposure and most commonly, physical injuries. Inflammation that occurs in the body’s skeletal structure such as the joints is often a result of an injury due to overuse or trauma to the area.

The five symptoms of inflammation include:

  • Redness
  • Heat
  • Swelling
  • Loss of function
  • Pain

Not all five symptoms are always present together. For example an ankle sprain may cause pain, swelling and loss of function but redness and heat may not always occur.

Inflammation is driven by activation of special immune cells, signaling molecules and dilation of blood vessels. These changes allow blood to flow, flooding the injured area with immune cells to directly help heal the tissue and provide further protection. This inflammatory process, when temporary, is beneficial since it encourages healing. However, if the injured tissue has not healed during this acute stage, the inflammatory process no longer encourages healing. Chronic inflammation can cause further damage and result in constant pain, impacting mood, energy and sleep. An individual living with chronic inflammation often experiences a significant decrease in overall quality of life.

Addressing inflammation so that it is beneficial and occurs only for a short time is preferred. However, if chronic inflammation occurs the main goal of treatment is to halt the inflammatory process rather than encourage it.

One of the most common inflammatory conditions is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis affects both men and women. It occurs in men before 45 years of age and women as they age. Osteoarthritis which occurs in aging adults and is due to the natural loss of cartilage tissue within a joint. As a joint is repeatedly used, the cartilage and components within the joint degrade over time, eventually leading to bone rubbing directly against bone. This activates inflammatory reactions causing pain, stiffness, swelling and difficulty with joint movement. As you continue to age multiple joints in the body can be affected.

The most common joints affected by osteoarthritis include:

• Knees

• Hips

• Shoulders

• Fingers

Addressing inflammation and maintaining healthy joints is critical to preventing further joint cartilage breakdown and reducing symptoms.

Anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs and corticosteroids can help with both chronic and acute inflammation but they do come with unwanted side effects. For example, NSAIDs are linked to gastrointestinal bleeding and corticosteroids can lead to weight gain, blood pressure changes and even mood changes. Surgery is also an option but often reserved for severe osteoarthritis.

There are a number of natural ingredients that can help target the inflammatory cascade and help relieve symptoms associated with joint pain.

Natural anti-inflammatory ingredients:

  • Curcumin – derived from the Indian spice turmeric. Curcuminoids have been studied to help reduce inflammatory signalling pathways in the body.
  • Boswellia is a resin derived from the boswellia tree. It has historically been used in religious and cultural ceremonies. The resin contains boswellic acids which has shown to reduce inflammatory signalling and help preserve cartilage tissue.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids are widely known to help reduce inflammation, including joint-related inflammation
  • Glucosamine is a component of cartilage tissue and degrades overtime. Studies involving knee osteoarthritis have reported supplementation with glucosamine can help reduce pain and preserve cartilage tissue after a minimum of four weeks use.

Natural agents such as those listed above can help ease ongoing inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. Addressing inflammation directly not only helps reduce pain, swelling and joint function but also benefits an individual’s overall quality of life.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/what-is-gout 2024-02-10T19:00:00-05:00 2025-09-30T10:57:01-04:00 What is Gout? Symptoms and Prevention. Bo Alesandru Gout is classified as a joint condition categorized alongside osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and others. However it is uniquely different with respect to its disease process and management.

Gout occurs when excessive levels of a compound called uric acid is present in the blood. These high levels of uric acid can make their way to a joint and crystallize into sharp needle-like form. Once situated and crystallized within a joint symptoms such as extreme pain, stiffness, swelling, and redness occur due to the underlying inflammatory process. The most commonly affected joint is the in the big toe, but it can impact other joints such as the knees, ankle, wrist or elbow.

Excessive uric acid levels within the body is the main driving force behind gout but not everyone has these abnormally elevated levels. Normally, the human body breaks down a compound called purines which is found in human cells, alcohol, shellfish, animal derived protein sources such as organ meats and red meats. As the purines are broken down, a by-product compound known as uric acid is formed. In healthy individuals, the uric acid flows through the blood stream and is eventually eliminated from the body via urination. However, if high levels of purines are broken down and not efficiently removed from the body via the kidneys and urine then it can lead to a buildup within the blood and eventually the uric acid crystallizes with a joint.

The buildup of uric acid within a joint can cause a tremendous amount of pain and swelling that can last between 5 to 10 days. Each incidence is commonly referred to as a gout attack. These attacks are often brought on suddenly and on average an individual prone to gout will experience about eight attacks per year.Nirav Dave

Gout is more likely to occur in men than women. However, it is just as common in menopausal women. Men and menopausal women naturally have high uric acid levels. Men are three times more likely to have higher levels of uric acid than women and menopausal women have similar levels during this particular stage of life.

Risk factors for gout:

  • Male or menopausal women
  • Obese or overweight
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney disease
  • Diet high in animal protein
  • Excess alcohol intake

Managing the number of attacks per year and relieving symptoms during an active attack are important for overall health. Some lifestyle suggestions to help with gout include the following:

  • Drink plenty of water: water helps support healthy kidney function and encourages urination to help eliminate uric acid from the body
  • Maintain a healthy weight: a common risk factor for gout is obesity and being overweight. Individuals who lose weight report a reduction in gout attacks. Additionally, the loss in excess weights eases strain on joints, especially during a gout attack.
  • Diet: limiting foods high in purines such as alcohol, red meat and shellfish naturally reduce uric acid levels in the body.
  • Natural health products: a variety of natural products that address uric acid levels, inflammation, kidney support, weight management and more can provide complimentary support for gout sufferers. Herbs such as black cherry, turmeric, and celery seed can help with uric acid control and address inflammation.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/hair-loss-in-men-can-it-be-treated 2024-01-10T19:00:00-05:00 2025-04-17T07:11:28-04:00 Hair Loss in Men – Can it be treated? Bo Alesandru Hair loss is not considered a disease, but rather a natural condition that occurs with age. In males, balding and hair loss can be caused by a combination of genetics, hormonal changes and aging.

Male pattern baldness occurs slowly, beginning around 20 to 30 years of age in most men. Initially men will notice hair becomes thinner and shorter before complete balding. In most cases complete hair loss, otherwise known as balding, begins with a receding hairline along the forehead and loss of hair at the top of the scalp.

Genetics from both parents as well as hormonal changes are largely responsible for male pattern baldness. Every single hair strand stems from a hair follicle on the scalp.  These hair follicles provide nutrients, hormones and blood to help encourage hair growth. These hair follicles have an affinity to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), unfortunately, DHT encourage hair loss. As men age, some of the body’s testosterone is converted into the DHT. High levels of DHT within the bloodstream interact with hair follicles, causing follicles to shrink. This results in shorter and thinner hair, and eventually hair loss.

Treatments for hair loss include medications that encourage hair growth or reduce hair loss. Some of these medications work by reducing DHT hormone production, commonly known as “DHT blockers”, to reduce or slow down hair loss. Other medications help increase the supply of blood to the scalp, encouraging hair growth and slowing down the loss of hair. Many of these medications can impact other parts of the body, such as the prostate gland. Unwanted side effects including hormonal fluctuations, sex drive changes and erection complaints are just some of the reasons most men usually seek alternate options for hair loss. Cosmetic hair transplants are another option for men who want to maintain a full head of hair but can be costly.

Natural supplements such as saw palmetto, fenugreek seeds and phytosterols naturally help to reduce DHT production, addressing the underlying hormonal changes that lead to hair loss. Other herbs such as gingko biloba leaf and rosemary can help support blood flow to the scalp, encouraging healthy hair growth. With so many safer and natural options, it’s no surprise that men will give these a try. Many of these supplements work to slow down the process of hair loss and help keep the hair that is currently on the scalp healthy. This can reduce hair thinning, shortening and loss overall.

https://belllifestyleproducts.ca/blogs/latest-stories/bph-a-men-s-health-issue 2023-12-10T19:00:00-05:00 2025-09-30T10:56:35-04:00 BPH: a men’s health issue Bo Alesandru Prostate health is an important men’s health topic. The prostate is a specialized gland that is part of the male urinary system. Its main role is to produce the milky fluid-like substance the enables semen to easily move and swim about.

The average size of the prostate gland is similar to a golf ball. However, at about age of 25 years the prostate gland begins to slowly enlarge. The size of the prostate gland can change over a man’s lifetime due to expected hormonal changes that occur as men age. An increase in the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) naturally occurs with age and directly causes the enlargement of the prostate gland. The medical term for this enlargement is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is very common, affecting fifty percent of men by age 60 and ninety percent of men who are 80 years of age.

Although this enlargement is no necessarily harmful BPH can lead to number of disruptive urinary complaints. The most common complaints in men with BPH includes frequent urination, waking up multiple times at night to urinate, slower flow of urination, dribbling, and difficulty initiating urinary flow. These symptoms can impact various aspects of a man’s life including sleep, energy, mood and overall mental well-being. Having to constantly search for a bathroom or feeling embarrassed when you have to go can become quite difficult for an aging man.

Medical options do exist to help address BPH but some are invasive procedures that may not work throughout that individual’s lifetime. Certain natural plant derived ingredients have shown to offer benefits for men suffering with BPH. The most well studied herb is saw palmetto. Its fruit portion has been shown to help with the hormonal changes that lead to the symptoms associated with BPH. Stinging nettle leaf and root portions are other plant derived ingredients that can help reduce frequent bathroom trips, allowing men to get a better nights rest. Another ingredient is beta-sitosterol which is a plant derived fatty substance. This specialized compound has natural anti-inflammatory effects, contributes to a healthy prostate gland and improves urinary symptoms and flow. Natural products marketed to support prostate health and reduce the unwanted urinary symptoms of BPH are available in capsule, tablet and even tea form. A tea based option can help support a healthy urinary stream and allows the herbal ingredients to specifically target the urinary system, where it is needed the most.
